Gherkin Harpoons

A gherkin harpoon making workshop designed to introduce students to jewellery tools and techniques through an object whose utility can be tested. Each student was given a pewter ‘paddle’ that they force fitted onto a bronze shaft. Their task was to shape the paddle. Should they make a mistake the error could easily be melted down and re-cast into a new paddle. The paddle represents a limited canvas, but a canvas none-the-less.
