At Crafts Council, we champion the role of craft skills and knowledge to enrich individual lives and change the world for the better. Established as a non-profit organisation in 1972, for 50 years we’ve represented makers, craft enthusiasts and sector professionals.
As we look to the future, we are committed to social justice and removing historic barriers so that all communities can engage with our charitable mission. Our small team work hard to create welcoming spaces online and in person. We recognise that some of the topics we cover can challenge opinion. We encourage debate and feedback, but we do not tolerate abuse or discrimination.
If negative situations arise we will act as follows:
- We will not tolerate our staff being subject to any behaviour that is racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic or transphobic. Such incidents will be escalated to our senior management team, who will decide to respond – whether privately or publicly.
- We reserve the right to remove any posts, comments or messages on our online platforms that we consider irrelevant, offensive, hateful or disrespectful to our community.
- Any threats of violence, vandalism or harm against employees and the building will not be tolerated and will be reported to police and/or local authorities.
Online code of conduct
When interacting with our website, membership platform and social media channels, please follow our community guidelines:
- Be respectful of other users and their expressions.
- Do not post content that is discriminatory, obscene, inflammatory, harassing, hateful, threatening, profane or personally abusive.
- Do not post explicit content.
- Do not use our channels to attack individuals or companies.
- Respect the privacy of others and protect your own. Do not post personal information or details about others that you would not be comfortable sharing in a public forum.
- Do not post anything that could be libellous or defamatory: if an accusation is made against a named person, for example, a maker or member of staff at an event, we will hide it and investigate offline.
- Do not post adverts for commercial products or services. Third-party links will be removed.
- Do not post repeatedly about off-topic issues (spam).
Anything that breaks our community guidelines will be removed without warning. We reserve the right to block repeat offenders.
You must also comply with the social media platform's own terms of use, which can be found on their help pages.
Thank you for helping us create a safe and welcoming environment for the craft community.
