Join Crafts magazine from 5.30-7pm on Monday 20 September to rediscover the relationship between ceramicist and chef. As eating together proves more meaningful than ever, the humble plate is heaped with new significance.
In this talk – which marks the launch of Crafts' September/October 2021 issue – we meet artists who are transforming the dish, creating everything from one-off works for top chefs, to artworks that explore the politics of the plate and reinvent post-Covid dining.
The talk will be chaired by Clare Wood, the artistic director of the British Ceramics Bienniale and speakers include:
- Adam Silverman, the Los Angeles-based ceramic artist harnessing the power of tableware to heal social and political divides.
- Martin Kullik, co-founder of Steinbeisser, an experimental gastronomy company that unites chefs and artists.
- Jacqueline Bishop, the New York based artist who has reimagined the troubling colonial narratives often depicted on plates from the past for an exhibition at the British Ceramics Biennial this autumn.
This event will take place online using Zoom and will feature automatic live closed captioning.
