2. Hold the loop in place with a clipboard or tape. Seperate the strands, and twist tightly at least 2cm from the top. 1. Cut two lengths of yarn to 90cm. Fold them in half and tie an overhand knot to make a loop.
4. Now twist them together for 5cm and place a twig between the two strands. 3. Repeat on the other strands, pinch tightly and be careful they don’t unravel!
6. Add more twigs 1 to 1.5cm apart. 5. Carefully continue to twist the strands, keeping the twig in the centre.
8. To fasten the bracelet around the wrist, separate the loose strands into two. Thread one half through the loop. 7. Make sure it is long enough for your wrist, then tie a knot at the end to secure it.
10. Now you can experiment with different lengths and yarns. 9. Then simply tie a knot to secure the bracelet on your wrist.
About Tanvi Kant
Tanvi’s textile jewellery practice began in 2005 by unpicking the woven threads of her mother’s silk sari whilst at university. Looking for ways to prolong fabrics and clothing no longer worn she developed sculptural cords through wrapping, coiling, knotting and stitching. These award-winning pieces, sub-consciously infused with her Gujarati ancestral heritage reflect personal expressions of her own sense of fluid identities and values. She draws inspiration from the textures, colours, and cycles of the natural world. Through her workshops she aims to demonstrate how readily available materials can be transformed with unashamedly simple techniques.
