155A Gallery
For Collect 2023, 155A Gallery is delighted to present The Familiar, Found and Improvised – new work by Dan Kelly, Jim Gladwin and Anne-Laure Cano.
By foregrounding processes of production, these three artists commandingly resolve opposing textures within powerfully expressive forms. Acutely aware of the centrality of the tactile to an appreciation of ceramics, their forms hinge upon a reconciliation of the coarse with the smooth. Each work stands as a celebration of the earthy colours of clay and the alchemy of the kiln; planes undulate with ripples and waves before twisting into the ruggedness of landscape. As a group, they afford a sensuous fullness, a celebration of the wonderous tactility of clay.
155A Gallery, established in 2018 by Karen Smith, specialises in showcasing contemporary art through themed exhibitions drawn from emerging and established artists, both from the UK and across the world. Curation is driven by similarities in approach to material, leading to a focus on the formal elements of artistic practice.
